Hop cones

Cones are forming fast on our first year hops despite being nibbled on heavily by grazing deer a few times. Nugget have done the best by far, growing more than twice as tall as either the Cascade or Magnum.image

Harvesting before the heat

We’re experiencing extreme heat early this summer in North Carolina, with temperatures over 100 for the first time in 3 years and records being broken on back-to-back days, so it was time to get the last of the spring crops out of the garden.

Among them was our first-ever head of fennel, beets, and turnips, as well as a large bag of romaine and two of kale. Now that the garden’s in high gear it’s been fun being able to plan a whole week of meals all including something from our backyard.
